Dr. Russell Ahn appointed as “Vice Chair of Taekwondo for All Committee” of World Taekwondo and “A Member of Education Commission” of World Martial Arts Committee

The University of California Martial Arts Program is pleased to announce that UCMAP Director Dr. Russell Ahn has been appointed as Vice Chair of “Taekwondo for All” by the World Taekwondo (WT), the international sports federation of Taekwondo. He will be serving the next two years as the Vice Chair of “Taekwondo for All” committee and a member of “Membership Relations and Development Commission” of World Taekwondo. The committee is “to maximize diversity among Taekwondo competitors and practitioners including but not limited to youth and women in the management and administration of the sport.” For the past, 10 years, Dr. Ahn served as Vice Chair of Youth and Collegiate Committee of WT.

On August 30, 2019, the World Martial Arts Committee (WMC) and Chungju City organized the 2nd World Martial Arts Mastership in the City of Chungju. For the past 4 years, Dr. Ahn has been serving as a committee of member of WMC. On top of his role as committee member of WMC, he was also appointed as a member of “Education Commission” of WMC. Currently, WMC consists of multiple international martial arts federations such as and World Taekwondo, International Judo Federation, International Kabaddi Federation, International Muaythai Federation, World Martial Arts Union, International Savate Federation, International Sambo Federation, World Yongmudo Committee.

Moreover, former UN Secretary General Ki Moon Ban served as the honorary president of World Martial Arts Mastership in Chungju which was held in his hometown. Along with World Martial Arts Mastership, the OC of Chungju organized International Martial Arts Movie Festival and the American actor Westly Snipes was invited as the special guest of the festival.

In the past eight years, Dr. Ahn also served as the president of the US National Collegiate Taekwondo Association and was on the board of directors of USA Taekwondo, the national governing body of Taekwondo in the United States. He also previously served as the World Taekwondo (WT) technical delegate for both the 2011 Shenzhen Summer Universiade and the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade. Furthermore, he served as the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Technical Committee Chair for 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade and 2019 Napoli Summer Universiade. Dr. Ahn continuously serves as the Technical Committee Chair of Taekwondo for FISU since 2015.

This impressive array of responsibilities continues within the University of California, Berkeley Martial Arts’ leadership, as the previous Taekwondo Technical Delegate to FISU, Dr. Ken Min, also hails from the university. In addition to starting UCMAP, Dr. Min also initiated the university Taekwondo movement worldwide, hosting both the 1st and 7th World University Taekwondo Championship (WUTC), FISU-sanctioned events, at UC Berkeley.
