Cal Taekwondo Team Wins Championship Title at NCTA

The Cal Taekwondo Team has defended the championship title at the 42nd National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships at the University of California, San Diego on April 1-2, 2017.

This past weekend, the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association Tournament Committee hosted the 42nd Anniversary National Collegiate Taekwondo Championship at the University of California, San Diego. Over 570 competitors from over 76 colleges across the nation traveled to San Diego to compete in elite level kyorugi (free sparring) and poomsae (forms) taekwondo competition. Forty-two years old, the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championship has also been a proving ground for future Olympic and World Taekwondo champions.

After two days of heated competition, the Cal Taekwondo team earned four gold medals, one silver medal, and six bronze medals. One Cal athlete qualified for this year’s U.S. National Team at the 2017 Summer Universiade: Kody Han (’17). The renowned UC Martial Arts Program has won an overwhelming number of National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships, and this year’s team did not disappoint. In sum, the medals earned Cal twenty points. This victory marks the 37th time that UC Berkeley has claimed the national title.

Please join us in congratulating our Golden Bears for winning this year’s 2017 National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships!
